THE MERKABA

The Merkaba is a universal symbol of mysticism, representing the connection between heaven and earth as well as between masculine and feminine energies. The pyramid pointing downward is associated with the earth which the one pointing upward is associated with the heavens. Joined together, they unite the heavens and earth. It thus represents the relationship between deity and divinity as well as between masculine and feminine.

The biblical source of the Merkaba is found within the chariot vision of the prophet Ezekiel (Ezekiel, 1), where the prophet describes a complex structure carrying his consciousness outside his body. Following this depiction, the Merkaba also symbolizes astral projection and out-of-body experiences, allowing  one to pass between physical and spiritual dimensions. The Merkaba is an important element in Jewish mysticism, known as Kaballah, involving two main stories:  The act of genesis (representing the physical world of earth) and the act of Merkaba (representing the spiritual world of the heavens).
